UMW Report 2008 submitted by Sylvia Etheridge, President
Chatsworth First UMW currently have 12 pledged members and 14 non-pledged members. At our annual district meeting in October, we received a "Mission Today" certificate as well as the "Five Star Plus" certificate for contributing to the five channels of mission giving.
We participate in a reading program that helps us learn more about missions, spiritual growth, social action, and nurturing the community. We have 13 members who completed the program and will receive certificates.
Our prayer shawl ministry includes some UMW members and some church members who knit shawls that will be delivered to shut-ins and others. his year, we had 9 shawls dedicated and they will be delivered as needed.
Our unit provides meals for families in our church that have a death or sickness. Get well cards and sympathy cards are also sent. On Valentines Day, we visit our shut-ins and take a small gift of flowers.
Each year, we recognize babies born to church members with a gift of missions and present them with a certificate. We also give a "Mission special Recognition" to one of our members. We give a gift to missions in memory or honor of someone in our church.
We will have our pecan sale this year as our fundraiser. The money received from this project will be used for missions and our church work.
We have a faithful group of women who meet on the second Wednesday of the month to learn about and further God's ministry. All women are invited to attend.
